Death for 26-year-old in rape-murder of child | India News

JAIPUR: A protection of children from sexual offences (Pocso) court at Merta city of Rajasthan’s Nagaur district awarded capital punishment to a 26-year-old man for the rape and murder of 8-year-old girl in the district. The verdict was delivered within a month of the crime.
The girl was raped and murdered by the accused, who claimed to have treated the deceased’s mother as his sister, on September 20. He was arrested the same day and the police submitted the charge-sheet in the court on September 27.
The judge, who observed that the brutal crime “reflected demonic tendencies”, also imposed a fine of over Rs 2 lakh and awarded life imprisonment of 7 years each for kidnap and illegal confinement of the girl.
In her judgment, Rekha Rathore, special judge, Pocso court, remarked, “If the children in our society are not safe at home and outside, it is a matter of concern. Protecting children has become a daunting task for parents and those responsible for such crime are a big stigma to society. If he is kept alive then there is a possibility of committing such crime in future and thus the morale of other criminals will increase.”
The special judge while hearing the arguments of defence lawyer and special public prosecutor considered the case as “rarest of rare” and awarded capital punishment.
Meanwhile, the police are elated with the judgment. “After the rape and murder on September 20, my team of five officers burnt the midnight oil to make prompt arrest and further file and submit a strong chargesheet. We also established the girl’s struggle against the rapist through forensic and medical reports,” said Nand Lal Saini, circle officer, Degana, who was also the investigating officer of the case.
