Only fully vaccinated pilgrims can cross the border to Pakistan | India News

AMRITSAR: Pakistan government has decided to allow only fully vaccinated pilgrims to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur Sahib from India who aspires to undertake a pilgrimage to the neighbouring country on the occasion of the death anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev being observed in the month of September even as India has not opened its side of Kartarpur Corridor to prevent the spread of Covid 19.
According to sources, Pakistan’s National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) held a meeting on Saturday and decided that only fully vaccinated individuals, having valid vaccination certificate, would be allowed to enter Pakistan through Kartarpur Corridor or through the Attari / Wagah international border.
Other conditions include having 72 hours prior negative RT PCR test before travel to Pakistan and RAT on arrival in Pakistan. In case of a positive result, the pilgrims would be returned to India, said sources.
Notably on March 16, 2020, both India and Pakistan had temporarily suspended the day long pilgrimage in wake of Covid 19 and also suspended the registration for the Kartarpur Sahib pilgrimage. However, on October 2, 2020, Pakistan government announced to unilaterally open the Kartarpur Sahib pilgrimage but India denied to reciprocate the gesture.
Sources informed that it had also been decided that as per currently enforced Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs), an outdoor gathering of a maximum of 300 individuals was allowed in Pakistan with adherence to stringent Covid 19 protocols including mask wearing and social distancing etc. And the NCOC had directed the Evacuee Trust Property Board and Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to ensure the presence of maximum 300 individuals at one time at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur.
Sources here informed that NCOC Director (Operations) Mazhar Ajaib has directed to undertake the review meeting in the first week of September before taking the final decision.
