Opposition rakes up fuel price, agri laws during OBC bill debate | India News

NEW DELHI: As Lok Sabha resumed substantive business after the disruptions over three weeks, politics stayed in the spotlight with the Opposition raking up Pegasus scandal and farmers’ protest as also fuel price hike during debate on OBC bill.
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, explaining the reasons for blockade, spoke of the seriousness of snooping. Trinamool MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay demanded that Pegasus be discussed in LS on Wednesday, a challenge also thrown at the government by his colleague Kalyan Banerjee.
The TMC member said phones of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee had been hacked. Referring to the government’s argument that the constitutional amendment bill was being brought to strengthen federal system by letting the states to decide the state list of OBCs, Sudip said the federal system will be stronger if the Centre did not interfere in Bengal affairs on a daily basis.
Akali Dal’s Harsimrat Badal said the government is indifferent to farmers sitting in the protest. She said fuel price and fertiliser costs have gone up steeply in recent years, hurting farmers.
